Jean & Robert White, MamboCity (UK)

MamboCity is a west London-based salsa dance school and events promoter. We run classes in New York style salsa and other Latin dances such as kizomba for complete beginners up to advanced level. We also run regular salsa club nights in London, Latin dance events and weekenders around the UK, and dance holidays to destinations including Cuba, Jamaica Spain and Portugal.

MamboCity was founded by Robert and Jean White in 1999 and quickly gained a reputation for bringing star performers, Instructors, salsa bands and DJs from all over the world to our events. But we have never lost sight of our small beginnings in the back room of a Wembley pub and pride ourselves on being one of the friendliest salsa outfits around.

Whether you’re a beginner looking for a fun way to get fit and meet new people, or a more experienced dancer looking to move up to the next level, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome from our team.

Why the name ‘MamboCity’?

’Mambo’ is the name of the big band Latin music popular in 1950s New York. But the word also reflects the origins of salsa music. It entered the vocabulary of Cuba from the West African Bantu language via the slave trade and translates as ‘a conversation with the gods’.

That neatly sums up the feeling you get from dancing salsa, when you can forget all your problems and just give yourself up to the music.
